RVCC TO OFFER RUTGERS? LIBERAL STUDIES PROGRAM AS PART OF COLLEGE?S UNIVERSITY CENTER
Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) and Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, have established a partnership that will enable area residents to obtain their baccalaureate degrees while staying close to home. The new agreement, which was signed May 8, will bring courses leading to Rutgers? Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies to RVCC?s North Branch Campus. The program, which will begin in Fall 2009, is being offered as part of the College?s University Center.
?We welcome Rutgers as our University Center partner and are excited about the special Liberal Studies program they are bringing to our North Branch Campus. The program will provide a pathway for our graduates who have pursued career-oriented degree programs to stay at our campus and complete their Bachelor?s Degree,? said RVCC President Dr. Casey Crabill.
?I look forward to adding Raritan Valley Community College to the list of community colleges with whom we have a very close working relationship. This partnership is an excellent example of complementary public Institutions working jointly in the public interest by providing Baccalaureate degree completion programs close to home,? said Dr. Raphael J. Caprio, Vice President for Continuous Education and Outreach, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
The Rutgers Liberal Studies program is designed for students who already have an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Applied Science degree. Adult students who already have attained significant technical and applied skills can obtain a Bachelor?s Degree through this program. After transferring credits from their Associate Degree programs, students in the Rutgers program will gain critical skills essential to the liberal arts and pursue a program that combines courses in humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. Students often begin the program after accumulating valuable work experience, and many pursue their education while continuing to work. Information about the Rutgers liberal studies program is online at http://www.camden.rutgers.edu/dept-pages/ugradlib.
