RVCC?S PARTICIPATION IN RELAY FOR LIFE RAISES MORE THAN $30,000 FOR AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) raised more than $30,000 for the American Cancer Society (ACS) through its sponsorship of the Relay For Life, held April 24-25 at the College?s North Branch Campus.
The overnight event?because cancer never sleeps?celebrated survivorship and raised money for research, advocacy, education and patient services programs. During the event, teams of people, all affiliated with RVCC, walked around a special courtyard track at the College. Each team tried to keep at least one member on the course at all times.
?Through their participation in Relay For Life, the students, faculty, staff and administration of Raritan Valley Community College have been a true asset in the fight against cancer. Over the past five years RVCC has truly shown their commitment to the community and to the American Cancer Society that they are dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem,? said Kate Schellhase, Director, Special Events, American Cancer Society. ?With beautiful weather on our side almost 300 Relayers packed the field, walked the track all night and helped us celebrate Relay For Life?s 25th Anniversary. The American Cancer Society is grateful to have RVCC as a community partner,? Schellhase continued.
In 2005 RVCC was the first community college in New Jersey to sponsor the event. In its first four years of sponsoring Relay For Life, the College raised close to $150,000 for the organization?s fight against the deadly disease.
