ETHICON GIFT SUPPORTS RVCC PROGRAMS, NURSING SCHOLARSHIPS

Raritan Valley Community College?s nursing education program is supported, in part, through the generosity of ETHICON, Inc., a Johnson & Johnson Co. With a $10,000 gift for the 2007-2008 academic year to the ETHICON Nursing Scholarship, the company is helping both the students and the local community with the ongoing demand for nurses.

?We are well aware of the fine reputation of the nursing program at the College,? said Sandra Kiser, director of Community & Public Affairs, ETHICON. ?The fact that we can help so many students overcome the financial burden of pursuing an education that addresses unmet community needs is a powerful incentive.?

ETHICON also contributed an additional $10,000 to support the Center for Civic Engagement and the Theatre at RVCC. The Center for Civic Engagement includes the Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies and the Paul Robeson Institute for Ethics, Leadership and Social Justice. The two institutes sponsor programs on issues related to combating hatred and prejudice.

The Theatre at RVCC offers a host of performances each year for all ages to enjoy, including a series specifically designed for school children. Students in schools unable to afford the cost of tickets have missed out on cultural opportunities, but a special theatre ticket fund is now able to underwrite these costs.

?RVCC is excited to partner with ETHICON to achieve our shared goals of educating students in the healthcare professions and for ensuring a community committed to responsible citizenship,? said RVCC President Dr. Casey Crabill.

In addition, customized training programs and non-credit courses are available for those seeking personal and professional development.

The College is committed to offering a quality and affordable education through effective teaching, liaisons with the community?s businesses and state-of-the-art technology. For further information, visit www.raritanval.edu .
