PNC BANK PUTS RVCC FOUNDATION IN WINNER?S CIRCLE

The Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) Conference Center was transformed into the PNC Bank Racetrack on Friday, May 2, when the RVCC Foundation held its annual spring fundraiser, A Nite at the Races .

The event, which raised $35,000 for scholarships, featured an evening of horseracing when guests placed paper money bets on their favorite horses as actual races were projected on large screens. Participants used their winnings to ?bid? on gifts in the Prize Paddock and also had the chance to compete with real money in the Silent Stakes for silent auction items. A Derby hat parade was held and the winners were selected by the student volunteers.

As the lead sponsor, PNC Bank lent its name to the racetrack for the night and was recognized for its support throughout the event. Stephen Reynolds, senior vice president, regional director, addressed the guests, noting that ?PNC takes seriously its commitment to corporate philanthropy and is pleased to support Raritan Valley Community College.?

Guests were greeted when they arrived by Star, a dark half-Arabian horse with a star-shaped white patch on her forehead. Owned by Richard Nash of Camelot Farms in Lebanon, Star posed for photos with race night party goers.

Other sponsors for A Nite at the Races were Affinity Federal Credit Union (Trifecta); QuickChek, Somerset Medical Center and SunGard Higher Education (Exacta); and Chubb & Son, Gilbane, GPC, Inc. and Jeanne Stahl & Daniel Elliott (Daily Double). Handicappers were Princeton Design Group and Suplee Clooney & Co.

In the past 11 years, the RVCC Foundation?s spring event has raised $600,000 for scholarships. For more information about making a gift to the Foundation, contact Betty Hutcheon, executive director, at 908-526-1200, ext. 8349.
