RVCC TO OFFER YOUTH CHESS CLASSES
The Corporate & Continuing Education (CCE) division at Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) in North Branch is offering two chess classes for youngsters this winter and spring. The following classes have been scheduled:
Chess I (Newcomers/Advanced Beginners): Students ages 7-14 learn the basics of chess playing, including the rules, the equipment, how the pieces move and their relative values, and how to achieve victory by checkmating the opponent. The class will be held Saturdays, February 23 to April 5, from 9-10:30 a.m. The fee is $108. No class will be held March 22.
Chess II (Advanced Beginners): Students ages 7-14 who already are familiar with chess are introduced to the world of tournament chess. Topics include a general look at opening ideas and the study of tactics, including pins, discovered attacks, skewers and double attacks. The class will be held Saturdays, February 23 to April 5, from 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. The fee is $108. No class will be held March 22.
