Dr. Richard D. Wellbrock of Watchung has been named the new chairman of the Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) Board of Trustees. The new chairman was unanimously elected to a one-year term during the Board?s reorganization meeting held Tuesday, November 27, at the College?s North Branch Campus.

During the meeting, Dr. Paul J. Hirsch of Bridgewater was elected vice chair from Somerset County. Dr. Catherine McVicker of Califon was chosen to continue to serve as the vice chair from Hunterdon County. The terms for vice chairs are for one year.

Dr. Wellbrock, a member of the RVCC Board of Trustees since 1985, previously served as a vice chairman from Somerset County. He also serves as chairman of the New Jersey Council of County Colleges (NJCCC), the association of all 19 New Jersey community colleges. Dr. Wellbrock is president of Wellbrock Inc.; chairman of Hilltop Community Bank of Summit, New Jersey; chairman of the Board of Trustees of Securities Exchange Commission Regulated Industry Leadership Fund; and director of Hospice Provider Group of Westfield. He also served as the scoutmaster of Watchung Boy Scout Troop 32 for over 20 years.

?I am honored to be named chairman of RVCC, especially at such an exciting time when the College is growing and starting to implement a new strategic plan,? said Dr. Wellbrock. ?RVCC enjoys a great reputation throughout the state for providing the highest quality education at an affordable price. Our students are fortunate to be educated by outstanding and dedicated faculty members,? Dr. Wellbrock continued.

Carrie Rock of Middlesex has been chosen as the new alumni representative to the Board of Trustees. ?I?m excited to be able to give RVCC students a voice on issues that will affect their day-to-day lives on campus,? said Rock.

Other one-year leadership positions approved during the meeting include:

Secretary: James B. Ventantonio (Bridgewater)
Assistant Secretary: Dr. Frederic C. Sterritt (Neshanic Station)
Treasurer: Robert P. Wise (Clinton Township)
1st Assistant Treasurer: Shawn Clark (Branchburg)
2nd Assistant Treasurer: Joetta Clark Diggs (Hillsborough)

Rock received an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Restaurant Management from the College in 1996 and an AAS degree in Business Management from RVCC in May 2007. While at RVCC she was active with a number of clubs and activities on campus, including the Student Ambassador Program, the Alpha Beta Gamma Honor Society, the Business Club, the Rotaract Club and Relay For Life.
