Advising, Counseling & Transfer Services Office Offers

Advising for First-Time Students
First-time students are assigned academic advisor based on their major. The advisors will be able to help the student understand the degree requirements, register for classes, develop an academic plan, connect to campus resources, and begin to plan for the transfer process. To register for their first semester of classes, student attend a First Year Registration Session (FYRS).

Advising for Incoming Transfer Students
Students who have earned 12+ credits at another college or university will be assigned an Incoming Transfer Advisor.  Shortly after applying, you will receive an email from your assigned Incoming Transfer Advisor. Please make sure that the Enrollment Services office has received official copies of your college transcripts in advance of your appointment. The advisor will review the transcript(s) and assist you in your selection for registering for classes.  You can also bring copies of your transcripts with you -- unofficial or official. Advising for Early Credit (EC) Students
Students that are currently sophomores, juniors or seniors in high school with a GPA of 3.0 can apply to RVCC as Early Credit, non-matriculating students. Students and their parents/guardian are required to meet with an EC advisor for course registration. Health & Wellness Counseling
Free, personal short-term counseling is available to students. We recognize your college years can be challenging and we want to support you and help you have a productive, rewarding and satisfying college experience. Email personalcounseling@raritanval.edu for an appointment.

Transfer (After RVCC) Advising
Transfer information and advising are available for students to help in navigating the transfer process to a 4-year school. Our Transfer Team is here to assist students in their selection and application process. It is important to us that students transfer to institutions that meet their transfer needs and goals and are the best fit for them. Additionally, we want students to learn and understand how to maximize their transfer credits when transferring to another college/university after RV.  

Don’t wait for your last semester at RVCC to begin thinking about transferring. Meet with our Transfer Team and ask your questions early! Email transferservices@raritanval.edu to make an appointment with a Transfer Advisor to discuss your individual transfer questions.

Transfer Events
Did you know that 4-year colleges visit RVCC many times throughout the semester? Advising, Counseling, and Transfer Services (ACTS) sponsors Transfer Fairs, Information Sessions, Instant Decision Days and more. 

Additionally, RVCC hosts Tabling Days where representatives from the 4-year colleges visit RVCC for the day. This is a great opportunity for students to stop by their table and ask any questions about the transfer options for that institution.

Advising for Prospective International Students
A special advisor is available to assist foreign students planning to attend RVCC on F-1 visas. The advisor will walk you step-by-step through the admissions process. For additional information contact Elizabeth Sullivan at elizabeth.sullivan@raritanval.edu or 908-526-1200 x8452.

Workshops on Succeeding in College
Workshops are held throughout the year to help you deal with the pressures of school, family and life. Topics include: time management, test anxiety, and strengthening personal relationships.

Services for Adult Learners
Returning to the classroom after many years can be challenging and stressful. We offer special services to help you make a successful transition to college and balance school, family and work. We can also offer guidance on how to earn credits for prior learning experience.
